摘要:
 Nanostructured metals are plasmonic resonators that can trap and dissipate electromagnetic energy at their resonance frequencies. Resonance frequencies of metal nanostructures can be designed by engineering their sizes and geometries, and are very sensitive to their surroundings. To utilize surface plasmon resonance, various surface plasmon resonance enhanced biosensors have been investigated. However, existing surface plasmon biosensors rely on optical spectrometers for measurement. In this talk, I will present a new plasmon biosensor platform based on super-period metal nanostructures. The new sensor platform does  not require spectrometers. Metallic nanostructures can also be designed to completely trap and absorb light at resonance wavelengths. In this talk, I will also discuss gap-plasmon resonance structures for perfect light absorption in visible and near-IR spectral range.
 
报告人简介:
Prof. Guo received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 1998. At UIUC, he fabricated the first thin film micropolarizer array. The work stimulated and enabled the development of the multi-billion dollar 3D TV industry. After graduation from University of Illinois, he joined the former Rockwell International Science Center in Thousand Oaks, California as a Research Scientist and then moved to Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico as a Member of Technical Staff. In 2005, He joined the faculty of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, now is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Optics. Prof. received the Alan Berman Research Publication Award from in 2013. He was the only recipient of the University Distinguished Faculty Research Award of UAH in 2016. Prof. Guo currently serves as an Associate Editor of OS Journal of Photonics Research, and also serves as an Associate Editor of SPIE Journal of Nanophotonics.
